Above the Tundra: A Long-Range Alaska Yukon Moose Hunt

The Alaskan tundra doesn’t care about your schedule, your gear, or how badly you want a bull. It is one of the most punishing hunting environments in North America — and one of the most rewarding when it finally gives something back. Five years after filming his dad’s exceptional 2019 bull in this same country, Ty went back for one of his own.

Five Years in the Making

Ty’s last Alaska Yukon Moose hunt was behind the camera in 2019, watching his dad punch the kind of tag most hunters dream their whole lives about. This time the rifle was in Ty’s hands, and the country wasn’t any kinder.

The Bull

After working through several bulls that didn’t quite fit, Ty laid eyes on a true Yukon-class moose worthy of the tag. One well-placed long-range shot, a few stiff-legged steps from the bull, and it was over. That’s the kind of clean ending you live for in country this remote, where a wounded animal can disappear into a black-spruce thicket and you might not see it again.
