Two Bulls Down: Wyoming Backcountry Elk with Star Valley Outfitters

Two Bulls Down: Wyoming Backcountry Elk with Star Valley Outfitters

There’s a particular flavor of Wyoming elk hunt that you don’t get from a road camp: horses, wall tents, miles of country between you and a paved road, and the kind of mornings where every breath you take is visible. We headed back to a well-known camp in the Wyoming high country with Star Valley Outfitters for that exact experience.

The Crew

Ty and Jordan rode in with our MOA Rifle on horseback, headed for backcountry that holds bulls year after year. The bonus storyline of this hunt: Jordan’s first elk. Watching someone connect on their first bull — in country this big, on a hunt this physical — is one of the genuine pleasures of doing what we do.

Two Tags Punched

By the time the dust settled, two bulls were down and the pack-out began. If you’ve never packed out an elk in the Wyoming high country, just know it’s the part of the hunt the highlight reel skips. The horses earned their oats.

Outfitter

Star Valley Outfitters ran a first-class operation out of a beautiful camp. If you’re considering a Wyoming elk hunt, they’re worth a call:
